Privacy Policy — Name That Face
Name That Face ("the App") is developed by Wade Sellers. The short version: the App collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no servers. Everything you put into it stays on your iPhone.
What the App Does
The App turns a PDF of headshots into flashcards so you can learn a group of people's names. It finds the faces and reads the printed names using Apple's Vision and PDFKit frameworks, which run entirely on your device.
Data Collection
None. The App has no analytics, no tracking, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising frameworks. It does not ask you to create an account, and it has no login.
No network use. The App does not contact any server, including ours. There is nowhere for your data to go.
What Stays on Your Device
Photos and names. The PDFs you import, the portraits extracted from them, any photos you add from your camera or photo library, and the names attached to them are stored only in the App's own storage on your iPhone.
Your progress. Which people are in rotation and how well you know each one is stored the same way.
One preference. The App records whether it has already seeded its sample deck of US Presidents, so it doesn't add it twice.
Camera and Photo Library
If you choose to add someone by taking a photo or picking one from your library, iOS will ask your permission first. Those images are used only to make that person's flashcard and are stored on your device like everything else. The App does not read your photo library on its own, and it never uploads images anywhere.
Face Detection
The App detects that a face is present in an image in order to crop a portrait out of a page. It does not identify anyone, does not build a faceprint, does not match faces against any database, and does not use Face ID. All detection happens on your device and the results are not retained beyond the cropped picture you can see.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, children included.
Third Parties
There are none. The App includes no third-party SDKs and shares data with no one.
Your Control and Deletion
You can delete any person or any group inside the App at any time. Deleting the App from your iPhone removes everything it stored, permanently. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no data request to make.
One thing worth knowing: if you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, that backup is made by iOS and can include the App's stored photos and names, the same as any other app. Those backups are governed by Apple's terms, not by us, and we cannot see them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new date.
